Brexit continues to be a major area of concern for Irish industry. The issue of most concern in the CIPD’s HR practices in Ireland 2018 survey remains the free movement of workers between Ireland and the UK/Northern Ireland (25%). Next is the transfer of personal data outside of EU (18%), followed by increased cost base/pay pressure (16%).
On the free movement of workers, the main issues relate to the future of UK citizens in Ireland and the challenge of attracting talent from the UK. According to comments on how companies are preparing for the HR related challenges of Brexit, there was evidence of a highly proactive approach where most had working groups actively working to prepare while others had a wait and see or monitoring approach.
